What is Sage Essential Oil (Dalmatian)?
Sage Essential Oil (Dalmatian) is the steam-distilled essential oil of Salvia officinalis, in the Lamiaceae family, a plant native to the Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic. It is drawn from the leaves of the plant. This is common culinary sage from Dalmatian cultivation, distinct from clary sage.
About the oil
Dalmatian sage essential oil is distilled from the leaves of Salvia officinalis, common sage, grown along the Adriatic coast of Croatia and Bosnia. It is high in thujone, typically 30 to 50 percent combined alpha- and beta-thujone, along with camphor and 1,8-cineole. This is a different species from clary sage (Salvia sclarea) and has a sharper, more camphoraceous profile.
Common sage is an old Mediterranean culinary and garden herb. Spanish sage (Salvia lavandulifolia) is a lower-thujone relative sometimes used where a gentler sage oil is wanted.
