About the oil

Geranium essential oil, often called rose geranium, is distilled from the leaves and stems of Pelargonium graveolens, a tender perennial native to South Africa. It is not the ornamental garden geranium (genus Geranium) but a scented Pelargonium grown specifically for its oil, largely in Egypt, China, and Madagascar. Its scent is distinctly rose-like with a green edge, carried by citronellol and geraniol.

Because true rose oil is extremely costly, perfumers have long reached for geranium where they want a rose-like floral note at a fraction of the price.
