What is Brahmi Powder?

Brahmi Powder is the ground dried herb of Bacopa monnieri, the same aquatic plant in the family Plantaginaceae as our cut-and-sifted Brahmi, milled into a fine powder. As with the whole herb, "Brahmi" is also a common name for Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica); this product is Bacopa monnieri.

About the plant

Bacopa grows in shallow water and wet soil across warm regions worldwide and has a documented place in the Ayurvedic tradition, where it is classed as a medhya rasayana. Its characteristic constituents are the bacosides. The powder form is convenient for capsules, for blending into drinks, and for the traditional Ayurvedic practice of warming the powder into ghee, since the bacosides are fat-soluble. The dried herb is intensely bitter.
