What is Kola Nut Powder?

Kola Nut Powder is the finely ground dried seed of Cola nitida and the closely related Cola acuminata, evergreen trees in the mallow family (Malvaceae) native to the rainforests of West Africa. It is also written as cola nut.

About the plant

The seeds are naturally caffeinated, at roughly 2 to 3 percent caffeine by weight. Across West Africa the kola nut carries deep cultural significance: it is presented as a welcoming gift and features in ceremonies for births, weddings, and funerals. The nut also lent its name to cola beverages, as early Coca-Cola was flavored with kola nut extract; the flavor was later removed from the modern drink.
